2004 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the right engine mount on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?
A: The first step to replace the right Engine Mount requires vehicle elevation and support followed by tire and wheel removal and finally the shock module needs to be taken off. Proceed by removing the lower Engine Mount retaining nuts from the Engine Mount frame bracket and detach the three upper Engine Mount Bracket mounting bolts that secure it to the engine block bracket. Use a pole jack placed under the Oil Pan together with a wood block to lift the engine. After removing three frame retaining bolts install this set-up before continuing. Move the engine 2 1/4 inches upward from its original Oil Pan bottom position until the front transmission support reaches the crossmember. Simultaneously place the engine toward the left side of the frame. Nonprofessionals should disassemble the Engine Mount frame bracket from the frame which enables separation of the Engine Mount assembly from the upper Engine Mount Bracket while removing any damaged Engine Mount Bracket spacer. Reinstall the Engine Mount Bracket spacer if it received replacement then secure its bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). After positioning the cut-out side of the Engine Mount shield toward the engine outlet install the Engine Mount to the upper Engine Mount Bracket before tightening the nuts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Start by mounting the upper engine bracket to the engine with its mount and secure the bolts at 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) followed by attaching the engine-mount frame bracket to the frame and tightening its retaining bolts to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). Place the engine toward the right side of the frame before inserting the left side Engine Mount frame bracket with its retaining bolts and tightening them to 100 nm (74 ft. Lbs.). After securing the engine by lowering it the Engine Mount studs should align with the holes in the frame bracket before removing the pole jack and block of wood. Fasten the Engine Mount nuts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) before reinstalling the shock module then replacing front wheels followed by lowering the vehicle.
