2004 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine oil and oil filter on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?
A: The engine oil replacement starts by opening the hood to remove the oil fill cap. Position an oil drain pan under the Oil Pan Drain Plug before you raise and suitably support the vehicle. Draining all engine oil requires removing the Oil Pan Drain Plug at an axle-level position of the Oil Pan. Wipe down the Drain Plug hole along with the plug until all excess oil is removed. Next remove the Oil Filter and check to ensure the filter seal stays off the engine block. Clean the Oil Filter mounting spot before applying engine oil to the new filter seal to complete your installation with 30 nm of torque (22 ft. Lbs.). Screw in the oil Drain Plug securely to 25 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) then drop the vehicle to the ground. Pour the required amount of oil of specified grade into the crankcase space before removing and cleaning the oil level indicator for reinstallation. Remove the indicator to check the oil level and add more oil if needed before reintroducing the hood.
