2005 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the left engine mount on 2005 Chevrolet SSR?
A: Start the left Engine Mount change procedure by raising and supporting the vehicle while removing the front tire followed by the wheels then the shock module. Start by removing Engine Mount frame bracket retaining nuts next to the mount bracket and finish by excising three bolts that bind the upper Engine Mount Bracket to the engine block bracket. Set a pole jack under the Oil Pan while using a block of wood to separate the Oil Pan from the jack. Then remove the three frame Engine Mount Bracket retaining bolts. The first step is to raise the engine 2 1/4 inches by measuring the Oil Pan bottom to transmission crossmember front edge distance. After, you should remove the Engine Mount frame bracket from the frame and extract the Engine Mount as one assembly with the upper bracket. The Engine Mount needs to be detached from the upper Engine Mount Bracket before extracting the damaged Engine Mount Bracket spacer. Install the Engine Mount Bracket spacer only when it has been replaced and apply torque to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) on its bolts. Position the cut-out side of the Engine Mount shield pointed away from the engine before installing the Engine Mount to the upper Engine Mount Bracket along with tightening nuts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Secure the combination of upper Engine Mount Bracket and Engine Mount to the engine by torquing bolts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.). Attach the Engine Mount frame bracket to the frame and fasten it using retaining bolts while tightening them to 100 nm torque at 74 ft. Lbs. Place the engine so its mount studs correctly match with bracket holes on the frame and remove the pole jack and wood block. Reinstall the shock module after tightening the Engine Mount nuts to 50 nm (37 ft. Lbs.) before returning the front tire together with wheels. Complete this procedure by lowering the car.
