• Q: How to replace the cooling fan and fan shroud on 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer?

  A: The cooling system drain should occur first before you take off the air cleaner assembly and air resonator assembly and inlet Radiator Hose. The transmission oil cooler lines must be detached from the Fan Shroud while disconnecting the Fan Clutch electrical connector. The j 46406 Fan Clutch remover and installer (J 46406) needs to be used for Fan Clutch extraction from the Water Pump before removing upper Fan Shroud mounting bolts. Push the Fan Shroud inside while lifting it up until it clears the radiator filler port and remove the shroud and fan unit. Reinstall the fan and shroud according to their correct position while installing mounting bolts on the upper Fan Shroud until torque reaches 28 nm (21 ft. Lbs). Reinstall the Fan Clutch on the Water Pump with j 46406 (J 46406) before connecting the electric wiring to the Fan Clutch and placing back the air cleaner assembly and the inlet Radiator Hose and air resonator. Finally, fill the cooling system.
