    A: To replace the inflatable restraint Steering Wheel module air bag clock spring, you will need to disable the sir system first. Make sure the wheels of the vehicle are straight ahead, and the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) is installed, or the ignition switch is in lock position. Take the Steering Wheel off the Steering Shaft and pull the tilt lever straight out if your car is equipped with a tilt column. First, remove 2 torx(R) head screws from the lower trim cover and remove the cover from the appliance; then, remove 2 torx(R) head screws from upper trim cover and remove it from the appliance as well. Remove the wire harness straps from the Steering Wheel column wire harness, separately familiarize Steering Wheel column wire harness, and remove the retaining ring and the sir coil from the column. If replacing, throw away the old sir coil. For installation, double-check that the wheels are straight ahead and that the steering column anti rotation pin (J 42640) in placed or the ignition switch is in lock position. Make sure when installing the new sir coil assembly is center at each centering tab as installation is yet to be. Mount the sir coil assembly to the horn tower on the turn signal cancel cam assembly, slide the sir coil over the Steering Shaft assembly and firmly seat the retaining ring into the groove. If removing from the coil surface, remove and dispose of the centering tab from the new sir coil, and then install the upper trim cover, and secure with 2 torx(R) head screws tightened to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Then install the lower trim cover and fasten with 2 torx(R) head screws in such a manner that the tabs of lower trim cover will engage with the upper trim cover. Lastly, center and slide the tilt lever handle into the steering column, tighten the Steering Wheel onto the Steering Shaft, and condition the sir system.
