2005 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake pads on 2005 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Check the brake master cylinder reservoir fluid before starting work. Remove brake fluid to reach midway between maximum and minimum levels when the fluid exceeds that point. Lift the vehicle to uncover the tread area so you can take off the mounted tires. Apply the Brake Caliper Piston into the bore with a large c-clamp while keeping it no farther than 1 mm (0.039 inch) from its starting point to protect the internal mechanism. Take out the lower Control Arm park brake cable guide bolt and bottom caliper pin bolt while supporting the brake caliper with wire to protect the hydraulic brake hose. Pivot the brake caliper body upward and anchor it in place before taking out the brake pads from both ends of the Brake Caliper Bracket. Inspect the pad retainers during this process. Begin installation by testing suspension boots on brake caliper bolts and replacing them if they show damage. Also check brake caliper pin bolts for damage and corrosion and replace when needed plus inspect Brake Caliper Piston boot for aging. Push the Brake Caliper Piston into its bore with a spanner wrench until alignment pins on the brake pads match the cutouts in the piston. Coat the rear brake caliper bolts with high-temperature silicone lube before placing in the Brake Caliper Bracket followed by both Brake Pad retainers into their spaces on the mount. Fit the brake caliper assembly over the pads on top and inside the bracket before inserting the lower caliper pin bolt and tightening it at 20 foot pound force. Fit the park brake cable guide bolt to the lower Control Arm and bolt it at 24 nm (18 ft. Lbs.). Place the tire and wheel assembly back and allow the vehicle to descend. Press the Brake Pedal lightly three times to complete the installation procedure. Follow the same steps multiple times to achieve a solid Brake Pedal then refill the reservoir to set the right brake fluid level while finishing the pad and rotor friction surfaces.
