2005 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2005 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The first step to replace the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) should start with turning off the ignition followed by opening the hood while ensuring the electronic brake control module (EBCM) area remains free from loose dirt to avoid contamination. Remove the ebcm connector position assurance from the ebcm electrical connector then rotate the ebcm connector tab upward to unfasten it prior to cleaning ebcm contaminants. Unplug the ebcm electrical connector from the ebcm device when the ignition is powered off to avoid equipment damage. It is vital to exercise care when handling brake fluid because it can cause uncomfortable eye and skin irritation; immediate rinsing of eyes with water along with soap-water cleaning for skin is necessary followed by medical consultation for ingestion. Note down the positions of all brake pipes connected to the bpmv ahead of removing master cylinder brake pipes along with the 4 wheel brake pipes from the bpmv. The process starts with removing all brake fluid from the bpmv then unplugging the 2 bpmv bracket nuts followed by extracting the ebcm/bpmv assembly from its bracket position. Detach the bpmv electrical connector from the ebcm surface then remove the 6 ebcm to bpmv screws while cleaning both the ebcm/bpmv components before extracting the ebcm from the bpmv. The first step of installation involves cleaning the bpmv seal surface and thereafter screwing the ebcm into place on the bpmv then fastening it with tight 3.2 nm (28 inch lbs.) 6 ebcm to bpmv screws . Connect the bpmv electrical connector to the ebcm while confirming the installation of all 3 bpmv rubber isolators to protect against vibrations before ecm/bpmv assembly placement into the bpmv bracket. Install the bpmv bracket by securing it with two bpmv bracket nuts that should be tightened to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The brake pipes must reach the brake pipe mounting retainers on the frame to stop contacting either the frame or transmission because fluid loss from this contact might result in personal injury. The bpmv should be checked for correct pipe connection to prevent wheel lockup. When installing a new bpmv remove shipping plugs from the valve ports then install four brake pipes according to written records before torquing them up to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Position and tighten the 2 master cylinder brake pipes properly onto the bpmv at their recorded locations to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Clean the ebcm/bpmv assembly seal surface before connecting the ebcm electrical connector to the ebcm unit while keeping the ignition switch off. Press the ebcm connector tab down and add the ebcm connector position assurance to the electrical connector of the ebcm. Conclude the task by filling the hydraulic brake system followed by bleeding procedures and executing the auto bleed procedure and abs diagnostic system check before hood closure.
