2004 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2004 Buick Park Avenue?
A: Begin by turning off the vehicle ignition and working on the ABS Control Module replacement while supporting the vehicle. The next step involves eliminating both the left front tire and its corresponding wheel assembly together with the left front fascia extension. Clear the area surrounding the ABS Control Module because loose ground dirt can contaminate the ABS component pieces and all dirt needs complete removal in and around the ABS Control Module unit. Disconnect and rotate the tab on the ABS Control Module electrical connector position assurance so it reaches the unlocked state. The technician must never disconnect or connect ABS Control Module wiring harnesses while the ignition switch remains in ON position due to risk of equipment damage. The first step should involve disconnecting both the ABS Control Module electrical connector from the ABS Control Module as well as the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) electrical connector from the ABS Control Module. Clean the surface of the ABS Control Module/BPMV assembly by removing the 6 ABS Control Module to BPMV screws before noting that the ABS Control Module must be changed when faulty. Secure the ABS Control Module component by itself before removing it from the BPMV building block. The ABS Control Module should get installed onto the BPMV following cleaning of its sealing surface. Insert the 6 ABS Control Module to BPMV screws after cleaning their surface followed by screw tightening to 3.2 Nm (28 inch lbs.). Secure the BPMV electrical connector to the ABS Control Module only when the ignition switch shows an OFF position. Insert the ABS Control Module electrical connector to the ABS Control Module while rotating the ABS Control Module connector tab down towards the locked position. After inserting the ABS Control Module connector position assurance to the ABS Control Module electrical connector you must replace left front fascia extension and left front wheel in their proper position. The ABS Control Module program needs to be programmed using current software that matches the vehicle when installing a replacement ABS Control Module device. Vehicle lowering takes place afterward. The technician must employ the scan tool to remove DTCs before executing hydraulic brake system filling and bleeding plus executing Auto Bleed Procedure and conducting the ABS Diagnostic System Check.
