2003 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the ABS Control Module on 2003 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The first step to replace the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) starts with turning off the ignition and lifting the hood. The servicing area surrounding the electronic brake control module (EBCM) must stay clear of loose dirt to prevent contamination. Start by cleaning all contaminates away from the ebcm before taking off the connector position assurance from the ebcm electrical connector and turning its tab up to unlock the position. Disconnect the ebcm electrical connector along with ebcm maintenance while ensuring to avoid contact with brake fluid because it causes both eye and skin irritation. Write down the positioning of all brake pipes managed by the bpmv for installation steps. The master cylinder brake pipes and 4 wheel brake pipes must be removed from the bpmv before cleaning brake fluid spillage and then unscrewing the 2 bpmv bracket nuts to detach the ebcm/bpmv assembly from the bpmv bracket . First disconnect the bpmv electrical connector from the ebcm while removing the 6 ebcm to bpmv screws with care before cleaning the surface of the ebcm/bpmv assembly for removing the ebcm from the bpmv. Install the ebcm onto the bpmv by using its 6 ebcm to bpmv screws which need tightening to 3.2 nm (28 inch lbs.). Install all three rubber isolators on the bpmv to defend against vehicle vibrations before you attach the ebcm/bpmv assembly to the bpmv bracket through the installation of the two bpmv bracket nuts to a torque of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). The communication between brake pipes and bpmv must be checked for proper wheel functioning and delivery personnel should eliminate shipping plugs if a new bpmv receives installation. Secure the 4 wheel brake pipes along with the 2 master cylinder brake pipes to the bpmv through tightening both connections to 15 nm (11 ft. Lbs.). Clean both sides of the ebcm/bpmv assembly. Afterward, join the ebcm electrical connector to its ebcm while locking its tab. The ebcm connector position assurance needs to be installed on the ebcm electrical connector before filling and bleeding the hydraulic brake system through the auto bleed procedure while conducting the abs diagnostic system check and sealing the hood.
