2005 Buick Park Avenue Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the emblem/nameplate on the rear compartment lid on 2005 Buick Park Avenue?
A: The replacement process of the rear compartment lid emblem/nameplate requires several tools. You need a Heat Gun (J 25070) along with a 3M(TM) Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk (3M(TM) P/N 07502). Before keeping the emblem/nameplate in place you must secure it with protective tape to maintain proper alignment. Apply circular motion heating with the Heat Gun (J 25070) for 30 seconds at 152 mm (6 in) distance from the emblem/nameplate surface. Use a small plastic flat-bladed tool to peel off the emblem/nameplate while keeping the paint undamaged. Use the 3M(TM) Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk (3M(TM) P/N 07502) to eliminate body panel adhesive while a combination of Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha and isopropyl alcohol water solution removes adhesive from plastic panels. Before installation inspect the mounting surface for cleanliness and dry conditions while applying tape along the 88 mm (+/- 2 mm) horizontal edge and 20 mm (+/- 2 mm) vertical edge regions of the rear compartment lid when no markings exist. The Heat Gun J 25070 must heat the mounting surface until it reaches between 27-41°C (80-105°F) if applicable. The emblem/nameplate should reach 29-32°C (85-90°F) temperature level without touching the adhesive backing. Follow the detection marks to position the emblem/nameplate correctly before squeezing it onto the mounting surface uniformly. Check that the emblem/nameplate adheres properly then hand-roll excess ends before taking off the mounting surface tape.
