2005 Buick Rainier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake disc on 2005 Buick Rainier?
A: To work on the rear Brake Disc prepare slide hammer (J 2619-01), wheel hub resurfacing kit (J 42450-A), drum to Brake Shoe clearance gage (J 21177-A), and disc removal tool (J-46277). Look at the master cylinder reservoir brake fluid first; remove fluid when the level sits above its halfway position. Have the vehicle raised up while removing its tire and wheel unit. Apply a large c-clamp onto the rear Brake Caliper Piston to push it towards the wheel to extract the caliper. First detach the mounting bracket and all brake caliper retaining clips from the rear Brake Disc. Put the disc removal tool (J-46277) on the slide hammer (J 2619-01) then push the tool between the disc contact surfaces to unlock it from the hub assembly. Remove all rust and loose particles from where the Brake Disc fits against the axle flange. When refinish the disc you must indicate its alignment to one wheel stud before you remove it. Use the wheel hub resurfacing kit j 42450-a to clean the Brake Disc's contact area before testing the park brake components for replacement as needed. Wipe park brake shoes with denatured alcohol before blow-drying them and applying high-temperature silicone brake grease to contact areas. Check and fix the park brake system before placing the disc onto the axle and verify that it lines up with the flange marks. Push the Brake Disc onto the axle flange while turning it into position followed by adding the rear brake caliper mounting bracket and securing the tire and wheel. Put down the automobile then add brake fluid if the reservoir runs low. Slowly pump your brake pedal with force until it reaches the proper responsiveness before driving away and let the vehicle run without load to make the new discs smooth.
