2005 Buick Rainier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the rear brake line on 2005 Buick Rainier?
A: To change the rear brake hose, first car lift the vehicle and off the tire and wheel assembly. Clean up all the dirt and foreign matter from the brake hose and the fitting of brake pipe. Remove the rear brake hose from the brake pipe using a back up wrench ensuring at the end of the brake pipe to fit that plugs or caps made of rubber are placed over brake pipe fitting ends to prevent brakes fluid leakage and contamination. Next, take off the Brake Line retaining bolt from the frame and brake hose bolt from the brake caliper. Realize that the metal gaskets could be stuck on either brake caliper or at the brake hose end remove these gaskets from both locations and dispose of them. The old copper gaskets should not be re-used when installing the new brake hose. Instead, use only new copper gaskets on the reverse Brake Caliper Bolt. Mount the rear brake hose to the rear brake caliper and tighten the rear brake bolt of 44 nm (23 ft. Lbs.). Take off the rubber plug or cap on the rear brake pipe fitting and attach the brake pipe to the brake hose using a 20 nm (18 ft. Lbs.) torque on the rear brake pipe fitting while using a back up wrench. The brake pipe retaining bolt at the frame needs to be tightened to 20 nm (18 ft. Lbs). Finally bleed the hydraulic brake system, and reinstall the tire/wheel assembly and lower the vehicle.
