2005 Buick Terraza Coil Springs Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace Coil Springs on an All-Wheel-Drive on 2005 Buick Terraza?
A: The coil spring replacement starts with lifting and supporting the vehicle. Approach the replacement by first taking off the rear wheel and following by unbolting the brake caliper from its mount without severing the brake hose connection. First detach the Tie Rod from the knuckle before using a utility stand to support the lower Control Arm position. Proceed by disconnecting the height sensor link together with the shock absorber that connects to the lower Control Arm. To remove the Ball Joint from the knuckle use the Ball Joint/stud separator (J 41820) for separation followed by taking off the lower Ball Joint nut. Use a utility stand to lower the Control Arm while relieving coil spring tension before removing the coil spring, jounce bumper, spring insulator and lower Control Arm. Proper rear park brake cable routing requires at least 10 mm but no more than 12 mm clearance to wheel drive shafts during installation which may require retention straps. Index the spring insulator to the spring before attaching the spring insulator and jounce bumper together with the spring to the lower Control Arm . Use the utility stand to lift the lower Control Arm while you install the lower Ball Joint to the knuckle and tighten its lower Ball Joint nut to 35 nm (26 ft. Lbs.) with an additional 130° torque. The process ends with shock absorber and height sensor link attachment to the lower Control Arm followed by Tie Rod reattachment to the knuckle then brake caliper replacement and rear wheel reinstallation and vehicle lowering.
