2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the front crankshaft seal on 2005 Cadillac Escalade EXT?
A: The procedure for crankshaft front oil seal replacement starts with crankshaft balancer removal followed by removal of the front cover provided shaft oil seal. The replacement process should avoid applying lubrication to oil seals while also focusing on using new crankshaft oil seals without any repeating usage. Professional engine oil must be used to lubricate both edges of the new oil seal and the bore of the front cover oil seal. The installation starts with placing the Crankshaft Front Oil Seal onto the Crankshaft Front Oil Seal Installer guide (J 41478). The assembly process requires the threaded rod J 41478 (together with nut, washer, guide, and oil seal) to be inserted into the crankshaft end before using the J 41478 to guide oil seal installation into the cover bore. Twist the installer nut clockwise using a second wrench as you maintain hold of the bolt hex with a wrench until the seal reaches full deployment within the cover bore. Examine the front cover bore to verify that the J 41478 installed the oil seal without any misalignment. Finally, reinstall the crankshaft balancer.
