• Q: How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2006 Cadillac Escalade EXT?

  A: To replace the crankshaft rear oil seal: first remove the Flywheel supplied by the engine destroying the crankshaft rear oil seal from the rear cover. Care should be taken prior to installation to note the Flywheel spacer (if any) to be divorced and not lubricating the id of oil seal and crankshaft surface as the rear crankshaft oil seal on the crankshaft should not be reused. Apply a bit of clean engine oil to the outside diameter (OD) of the oil seal and rear cover oil seal bore so that they do not touch the crankshaft surface. Next, you have to install the j 41479 tapered cone and bolts onto the rear of the crankshaft, tightening the bolts until snug without overtightening. Thread in the rear oil seal on the tapered cone and push it into the rear cover bore. Thread the j41479 threaded rod into the tapered cone up to the point in which the tool touches the oil seal . Push the oil seal to align it into the tool . Turn the handle of the tool clockwise while making sure that the seal passes into the rear cover, then bottoms into the cover bore and then install the engine Flywheel j 41479.
