• Q: How to replace the intake manifold on 2005 Cadillac STS?

  A: To replace the Intake Manifold take out the cross car brace, fuel injector sight shield from the camshaft cover, pcv dirty air tube, and the pcv fresh air tube. Second, remove the sight shield bracket nuts and the sight shield bracket. Remove the Fuel Injector electrical connectors from the fuel injectors , from the evaporative emissions purge valve line and connector and remove the evap line from the retaining feature at the rear of the right head , stow it out of the way. Release the fuel system pressure and disconnect the fuel line from the Fuel Rail and the retainer at the rear of the right head. Unplug the Fuel Rail fasteners that could hold the Fuel Rail to the Intake Manifold and pull the entire Fuel Rail including the injectors out of the Intake Manifold. Release the plenum duct clamp located at the front of the Intake Manifold and the bolts that fasten the Intake Manifold to the cylinder heads and lift out the Intake Manifold in an upward lifting motion from the rear. Check the Intake Manifold before transfer of required parts for its installation. Slightly grease the inside edge of the rubber plenum duct and make sure that the new gaskets to the Intake Manifold are installed. Locate the Intake Manifold so that the front is in the plenum duct and rear to the Cylinder Head. Install the 10 bolts for the Intake Manifold into the cylinder heads loosely and tighten it in sequence (10 Nm 89 inch lbs.). Make sure the plenum duct is well fixed on the front of the Intake Manifold and tighten the plenum duct clamp to 2.25nm(20 inch lbs.). Oil the Intake Manifold Fuel Injector holes with light mineral oil gm p/n 9981704, good engine oil, or equal, and replace the whole Fuel Rail and injector assembly into the Intake Manifold but not using force on the injectors. Put the bolts that hold the Fuel Rail to the Intake Manifold and tighten to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Connect the fuel line back to the retainer at the back of the right head and to the Fuel Rail and fit the evaporative emission purge valve line to the retainer at the back of the right head and attach the line and electrical connector. Bolt the right and left side Fuel Injector electrical connector to the fuel injectors, and install the sight shield bracket and tighten the sight shield bracket nuts to 10 nm (89 inch lbs.). Finally, to finish the assembly, install the pcv fresh air tube, pcv dirty air tube, fuel injector sight shield, and cross car brace.
