- Q: How to replace the outside Door Lock Cylinder on 2005 Chevrolet Astro?A: You must first remove the trim panel before beginning the replacement of outside handle and lock cylinder. A sharp bladed tool enables the separation of the water deflector through its perforations. You must first remove both the access hole plug and the lock rod that exists inside the Door Handle. The nuts from the Door Handle need removal before the handle itself can be extracted. The work order requires personnel to take out the lock rod from the lock cylinder and lock cylinder retainer before extracting the lock cylinder and gasket from the door. The installation requires gm p/n 12346241 or an equivalent lubricant to be applied both in the lock case and the cylinder keyway before lock components go together. Place the lock cylinder together with its gasket onto the door while next installing the lock cylinder retainer. First connect the lock rod to the lock cylinder and after that attach the Door Handle to the door while fastening it with nuts which should be tightened to 6 n.m (53 lb in). The Door Handle procedure consists of attaching the lock rod to its handle and adding the access hole plug during which you reinstall the water deflector. To finish the installation put the trim panel into its correct position. The installation of fresh plastic retainer clips becomes necessary anytime you remove the lock rods.
