2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the side impact air bag sensor in a sedan on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Begin repairs of the inflatable restraint side impact sensor in sedans by turning off the SIR system. The inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS) must never experience striking movements and should be properly attached before turning on power to prevent deployment or harm. Start by removing the center pillar upper trim because you must then loosen the two bolts securing the inflatable restraint side impact sensor. Separate the sensor from its center pillar position then disconnect the connector position assurance (CPA) from the side impact sensor connector. Cut the connection between the side impact sensor and remove the side impact sensor connector. Installation begins with side impact sensor connector attachment before adding the CPA to its connection point. Wipe all residue off the mounting area before reinstalling the side impact sensor onto the center pillar where the locating pin should point at the opening. The center pillar upper trim receives a reinstall after tightening two bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in). Finally, enable the SIR system.
