2005 Chevrolet Cavalier Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Sensor in a coupe on 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: First disable the SIR system before replacing the inflatable restraint side impact sensor (SIS) in the coupe. Check that the SIS is safely mounted before powering up to prevent deployment or injury. Start the process by removing both the door trim panel and enough of the water deflector to gain access to the side impact sensor. The bolts require loosening to extract the sensor out of the door section. First detach the connector position assurance (CPA) from the side impact sensor connector. Proceed to disconnect the connector from it. The first step involves cleaning the mounting area followed by connector installation of the side impact sensor connector and subsequent CPA attachment. Attach the side impact sensor to the door with bolts that need to be tightened to 10 N.m torque (89 lb in). Establish your work on the water deflector and door trim panel before allowing the SIR system to become operational.
