2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Air Bag Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Sensor in a coupe on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: Starting the repair of an Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor (SIS) in a coupe requires first disabling the SIR system. Use caution when applying power to the SIS because power can cause unintended deployment or harm. Always make sure the SIS is well-secured first. The removal process starts with door trim panel removal followed by partial water deflector removal to reach the side impact sensor . Use a tool to ease the sensor bolts then pull the sensor free from the door opening. The side impact sensor connector's connector position assurance (CPA) must be removed before disconnecting the connector. When installing the system users must rinse off the mounting surface after which they must link the side impact sensor connector while attaching the CPA to the connector port. Start to tighten the bolts which mount the side impact sensor when its positioning pins on the sensor line up with the door openings while keeping force at 10 N.m (89 lb in). Place the water deflector and door trim panel back in position before enabling the SIR system.
