2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Air Bag Sensor in a sedan on 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier?
A: In order to replace the Inflatable Restraint Side Impact Sensor in a sedan, one has to disable the SIR system. It is important not to make an impact or jolt on the inflatable restraint SIS and fasten it properly before connecting power to prevent SIR deployment or personal injury. Start by removing center pillar upper trim, then remove the two bolts on the inflatable restraint side impact sensor. Carefully dip out the center pillar containing sensor and bar the connector position assurance (CPA) which should be removed from the side impact sensor connector. Disconnect the side impact sensor connector. For installation, you need to join the side impact sensor connector and then you fix the CPA on it. Wash off any dirt or grease on the mounting surface before reinstalling the side impact sensor back to the center pillar ensuring that the locating pin fits in the opening. Tighten the two bolts with 10 N.m (89 lb in) and replace the center pillar upper trim. Finally, enable the SIR system.
