2005 Chevrolet Cobalt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Filter on 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt?
A: The service process for automatic transmission fluid filters begins by raising and supporting the car. Keep a drain pan below the transaxle Oil Pan while you extract all front and side Oil Pan bolts without hurting either sealing surface to prevent future leaks. Use four turns of bolt loosening on the rear Oil Pan and follow it up with gentle rubber mallet or pry tapping to release fluid drainage. Check the fluid color initially as a condition for removing the remaining Oil Pan bolts and both the Oil Pan along with its gasket. Check the oil pressure relief valve and condition of the oil filter by slowly removing its neck from the seal with an extended screwdriver. You should remove the seal by applying the j 6125-1b (Slide Hammer) and j 23129 (Axle Boot Remover) as needed. The installation process requires the new seal to get slightly coated with j 36850 or petroleum jelly before being placed with a new filter installed into the case. Install the Oil Pan Gasket by using fresh material whenever the sealing ribs show any form of damage while alleviating the Oil Pan of contaminants and inspecting it for any signs of damage. Secure the Oil Pan by using torque of 10 nm (89 inch lbs.) when tightening its bolts. The last step includes allowing the vehicle to lower then filling the transaxle with dexron® iii fluid or equivalent until it reaches the proper level while inspecting the pan for any leaks before a fluid level check.
