2005 Chevrolet Corvette Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2005 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: The first step in Evaporator core replacement requires obtaining the essential tools such as the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). The first task involves eliminating the hvac module followed by discarding the hvac module assembly foam seal. The next step requires removal of the thermal expansion valve (TXV) mounting bolts to extract the txv from the Evaporator core along with discard of the sealing washers. First disconnect the wire connectors that power the discharge temperature management (DTM) sensor and also detach the hvac module wiring harness retainer pin from the hvac module. Place the wiring harness to the side by removing it from heater core cover retainer points. Begin the heater core removal process by taking out screws from the heater cover and removing both the cover and the heater core from the hvac module. The Evaporator core becomes accessible after removing the hvac module case retaining screws along with separating the upper case from the lower case. When using a new Evaporator core you must add the required polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil directly before installing new side seals alongside an upper seal and two lower seals that must be correctly oriented at their corners. Replace the hvac module with the upper case by screwing in the retaining screws that need to be tightened to 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). The installer should secure the heater core and cover onto the hvac module by tightening its screws to 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). The hvac wiring harness should be reattached to the heater core cover wiring harness retainers followed by securing the wiring harness retainer pin on the hvac module. After connecting the dtm sensor electrical connectors you must install new sealing washers to the Evaporator core before reattaching the txv and securing its mounting bolts to a torque of 7 n.m (62 lb in). Reinstall the hvac module afterward.
