2004 Chevrolet Corvette Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2004 Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Start the replacement of the Evaporator core by acquiring all essential tools which must include halogen leak detector (J 39400-A). You must start by taking out the hvac module before removing the vacuum harness from the double harness retainers of the hvac module case and disconnecting its vacuum harness connectors from the defroster actuator. Set the defrost door lever at the rearward counterclockwise position before inserting a flat bladed tool to hold its position. Front lift the defroster actuator retention tab to free the part before you disconnect its pushrod from the defrost door lever and take out the actuator. Begin by ignoring screw retention of the upper hvac module case to the lower case until you gain access to the concealed screw underneath the air inlet door by opening it. The upper hvac module case can be separated from the lower case after releasing the retaining tab at its connecting point. Begin the hvac module case seal removal by first taking off the primary Blower Motor side lower case seal before proceeding with the others. The task involves extracting the Evaporator core from the lower hvac module case structure. For new Evaporator core installations users should first add pag according to specifications and then add new water core filter and side seal and upper seal along with two lower seals to complete the installation. Set the Evaporator core inside the lower hvac module case before adding new case seals that begin with the primary seal. The upper hvac module case needs proper alignment along the lower case while checking for the retaining tab's strength; if needed, implement an external retaining clip as replacement. Fasten the upper case by using retaining screws which must be tightened to 1.6 n.m (14 lb in). Secure the defroster actuator pushrod with the defrost door lever before lining up the actuator with the mounting pins through slot alignment. The actuator should pass its test for binding before moving it toward the hvac module case for attachment. The flat bladed tool should be removed while you attach both vacuum harness connectors to the defroster actuator and secure them to retainers before installing the hvac module back into the vehicle.
