2005 Chevrolet Equinox A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator on 2005 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The first step for replacing the A/C Accumulator is to recover the refrigerant from the system. Use pliers to hold each fitting before using a large tool to remove both the left headlamp assembly with its A/C Accumulator nut while attached to the condenser. First remove the A/C Accumulator nut from the liquid line before proceeding to take out the A/C Accumulator along with its bracket bolt from the vehicle. Protective caps should be installed onto the condenser as well as the liquid line and A/C Accumulator to stop any material from contaminating them. Installation begins by removing protective caps before adding a determined pag oil amount to the A/C Accumulator. New seal washers also need installation during this step. Fix the A/C Accumulator to the vehicle by attaching the A/C Accumulator nut to the liquid line while maintaining the fitting with pliers and torquing it to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Time this process again for the installation of the A/C Accumulator nut when attaching it to the condenser and maintain the torque at 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Position the A/C Accumulator with the vehicle and secure the A/C Accumulator bolt before tightening it to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Replace the left headlamp and follow with system evacuation procedures for charging the a/c system. The halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) should be utilized to test for leaks in the a/c joints that require evaluation.
