2005 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core of the second design on 2005 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The replacement of the second design Evaporator core begins with hvac module and Evaporator case assembly removal. The procedure begins by removing thermal expansion valve (TXV) bolts from the backing plate before extracting the txv and backing plate from Evaporator pipes. Finally, o-rings must be removed from the pipes. Protective caps should be applied to the Evaporator pipes before cutting their temperature sensor connection from the engine harness and removing the temperature sensor screw and sensor from the Evaporator pipe. Start by taking off the hvac module front of dash seal and unfastening both the Evaporator pipe cover screw and the blower case assembly cover. The core Evaporator requires removal from the blower case assembly while a mixture of soap and water sprayed around its core seal will help with the process. When installing the Evaporator core users should apply the correct level of polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil before checking that the seal sits correctly. The Evaporator core requires installation through the blower case assembly while the technician applies a soap and water mixture to the seal to achieve easier positioning. After this process the technician should place the Evaporator core into the blower case assembly and secure the Evaporator pipe cover with its screw maintained at 1 n.m (9 lb in). The installation of hvac front dash seal requires thermal grease from the service kit to be packed fully inside the txv cavity before filling the housing. After wiping away any remaining grease from the temperature sensor you should fasten it by tightening the screw to 8.5 n.m (75 lb in). You must connect the temperature sensor to the engine harness before removing protective caps from the Evaporator pipes while checking that both seal areas remain clean and dry with no lint present. Attach new o-rings to Evaporator pipes and operate them with r-12 mineral-based refrigerant oil only to prevent corrosion. Sealing areas should be cleaned using non-petroleum-based solvents followed by waiting until they become completely dry. The installation process concludes by placing txv and backing plate onto Evaporator pipes before tightening txv screws at 8 n.m (71 lb in) against the plate. Finally, reattach the Evaporator case assembly and hvac module.
