2005 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Condenser on 2005 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The first step to replace the condenser should be to recover refrigerant. Start by taking out the front fascia followed by removing the battery box air duct and the condenser Radiator fan module (CRFM) closeout panel. During replacement the receiver dehydrator should be removed from the condenser before installing protective equipment to avoid contamination and desiccant saturation. After removing the compressor hose from the condenser please secure it with a cap. Move on to detach the crfm bracket bolts from the Radiator support which will allow the crfm brackets to be uninstalled. Raise the condenser until you can see the upper retention tabs then carefully pull the condenser out of the car. Place the recommended pag oil in the condenser before making sure the Radiator to condenser seals position correctly. Fit the condenser tabs into retention clips on the Radiator while pressing down to activate the clips. Install the crfm brackets with their bolts to the Radiator support then tighten them to 10 n.m (89 lb in). Before installing the compressor hose, replace the protective cap and add a new sealing washer to the connection point. Fasten the compressor hose onto the condenser and tighten its nut to 16 n.m (12 lb ft). The receiver dehydrator gets a new seal washer before you fasten it to the condenser and set the nut torque at 16 n.m (12 lb ft). Evacuate and charge the a/c system following crfm closeout panel and battery box air duct and front fascia reinstallation. Use halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to detect leaks at the a/c joints which need attention.
