• Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?

  A: Start by removing the hvac module together with the Evaporator case assembly before replacement of the Evaporator core. The Evaporator pipe procedure starts by removing the thermal expansion valve (TXV) bolts on the backing plate. Then take out the txv and backing plate from the pipes before removing the seal washers from the Evaporator pipes. You must detach both the hvac module front of dash seal as well as unscrew the two halves of the blower case assembly to extract the Evaporator core from the blower case assembly. Installation requires addition of the right amount of polyalkylene glycol (PAG) oil to the Evaporator core then verification of correct positioning for retention of its seal. Place the Evaporator core into the assembly of blower case components before reattaching the two parts and tightening screws to 1.5 n.m (13 lb in). Install the hvac module front of dash seal before applying new seal washers onto the Evaporator pipes. Secure the txv to the backing plate which fits on the Evaporator pipes while tightening screws with 3.5 n.m (31 lb in).
