2006 Chevrolet Equinox Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in an A/C system on 2006 Chevrolet Equinox?
A: The first step to replace the A/C accumulator starts with recovering all refrigerant. First remove the front bumper fascia before extracting the bolt that holds the A/C accumulator mounting clamp to the condenser and then remove the clamp and lower A/C accumulator bolt from the condenser. Use protective caps right after you remove the A/C accumulator from the condenser to stop contaminant and desiccant saturation. The installation requires users to first take off protective caps and then add PAG oil at recommended proportions to the A/C accumulator before installing fresh O-ring seals. Fix the A/C accumulator to the condenser next install the lower A/C accumulator bolt while tightening it to 6.5 N.m (58 lb in). Fasten the A/C accumulator mounting clamp along with its bolt by tightening it to 4.2 N.m (37 lb in). Reinstall the front bumper fascia last. The A/C system requires evacuation before filling in the PAG oil followed by system recharging. The technician needs to use a Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A) to inspect A/C joints for leaks after finishing the installation.
