2005 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The initial step to replace the A/C Accumulator consists of using the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to recover refrigerant first. First disconnect the air cleaner assembly then detach the a/c tube coupling from the condenser to A/C Accumulator tube before disconnecting it from the evaporator tube. After disconnecting the A/C Accumulator tube from the condenser the mechanic must remove both the A/C Accumulator mounting bolt and disconnect the A/C Accumulator from evaporator tube before extracting the A/C Accumulator in its entirety. Discard the o-ring seals. New a/c accumulators require the addition of refrigerant oil and installation of fresh o-ring seals to both tubes. Install the a/c tube coupling over the joined connection of the A/C Accumulator tube and the evaporator tube. Secure the A/C Accumulator in place with the mounting bolt while tightening it to 10 n.m (88 lb in). After that install the a/c tube coupling to link the condenser tube to the A/C Accumulator tube. The procedure requires you to put the air cleaner assembly back before conducting the a/c system evacuation and recharge. You should use the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) to test the component fittings for leaks during the last step.
