2005 Chevrolet Impala Evaporator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the evaporator core on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step in replacing the evaporator core includes removing the HVAC module assembly while disconnecting the recirculation actuator electrical connector before extracting the recirculation actuator electrical harness from housing clips. Start by opening the recirculation housing from the HVAC module assembly through unfastening the screws and attaching it to the HVAC. Then remove the mode actuator connector from its electric path and pull out the mode actuator itself. The procedure begins with disconnecting the air temperature actuator electrical connector before extracting the bolts securing the TXV to the evaporator core so the technician can remove the TXV together with old seal washers. Remove the upper case section from the HVAC module assembly lower case before breaking the heat stakes using a small chisel. Take out the evaporator core from the HVAC module assembly case through separation. To install the new evaporator add lubricating oil then place side, upper and lower seals on the evaporator core before fitting it into the HVAC module assembly lower case. Drill the dimples located beside the heat stakes through an inner 5.5 mm (7/32 in) drill bit on the upper case before joining upper and lower cases and finally tightening the screws at 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). Use new screws at the positions where the heat stakes were extracted and tighten them to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). First connect the electrical connector of the air temperature actuator after which install and tighten to 15 N.m (13 lb in) the mode actuator using screws. The recirculation housing needs to be attached to the HVAC module assembly while screws should be tightened to 1.5 N.m (13 lb in). After that, connect the recirculation actuator harness to housing clips before plugging in the recirculation actuator electrical connector. The operation ends with installing new sealing washers for the evaporator core then attaching the TXV and securing it by fastening bolts to 7 N.m (62 lb in). Afterward, reinstall the HVAC module assembly.
