2005 Chevrolet Impala Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the steering knuckle on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?
A: The first step when changing a knuckle begins with proper vehicle elevation and support. Begin by removing the wheel and tire before marking the strut's position on the knuckle. Begin by removing the bearing/hub assembly followed by disassembling the knuckle's rear wheel spindle rods. First remove the Trailing Arm from the knuckle and the rear strut to knuckle bolts and their accompanying nuts. Remove the knuckle entirely from the vehicle. First set the knuckle back into position and hand-start the bolts and nuts which will stay loose at this stage. Position the rear suspension Trailing Arm onto the knuckle then install the rear wheel spindle rods to the knuckle. Follow the fastener notice in service precautions when installing the bearing/hub assembly before tightening the strut to knuckle bolts and nuts to 120 nm (89 ft. Lbs.). Once the tire and wheel assembly is reinstalled and the vehicle is lowered researchers should check rear wheel alignment while making adjustmnts as needed.
