How to replace the water pump in a 3.8L engine on 2005 Chevrolet Impala?

You need to empty the cooling system before loosening the Water Pump Pulley bolts to take off its belt. Unscrew the Water Pump Pulley bolts and set the pulley aside afterwards. Move the Power Steering Pump to a new position before pulling out the Water Pump bolts and Water Pump itself. Uninstall both parts of the Water Pump Gasket before you clean and inspect the mating surfaces. Begin by sitting the Water Pump Gasket before placing the new Water Pump. Set the Water Pump bolts in place then tune the long bolts to 34 nm (25 ft. Lbs.) and short bolts to 22 nm (16 ft. Lbs.). Put the Water Pump Pulley back in place and fasten its bolts to 13 nm (115 inch pounds) torque. Finish by placing back the Power Steering Pump and Drive Belt before filling the cooling system.
