How to replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) safely and correctly on 2005 Chevrolet Malibu?

Ensure a stable position for the vehicle when you replace the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) to prevent injuries. Set the vehicle on a hoist then lift it. First detach the electrical connection before taking out the output speed sensor stud and sensor from its position in the transaxle housing. Verify the performance and replace the O-ring if needed but first take off the O-ring from the output speed sensor. Place the new O-ring on the output speed sensor before you put the sensor into the transaxle case followed by the output speed sensor stud. The vehicle should return to the ground after you attach the speed sensor stud and secure it to 11 Nm (8 ft. lbs.) while rejoining the electrical connector.
