2005 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the pushrod and valve rocker arm on 2005 Chevrolet SSR?
A: The first step for replacing the valve Rocker Arm and push rod starts with removing the valve Rocker Arm cover. Before you discard the rocker arms you must record their original position to facilitate their correct reinstallment after the repair. Then remove the bolts and the rocker arms. Remove the Rocker Arm pivot support as the following stage. Mark the Pushrod positions before removal because marks will help with proper installation of the components. Clean engine oil serves as the lubrication for valve rocker arms and pushrods during assembly while valve Rocker Arm bolt flanges need additional lubrication. Place the valve Rocker Arm pivot support by letting the pushrods enter both valve lifter sockets and the Rocker Arm ends without fastening the bolts. Attach the rocker arms and bolts onto the valve train while the number one Piston rests at compression stroke top dead center at the 1:30 position of the Crankshaft sprocket key. You need to apply torque of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) when tightening the valve Rocker Arm bolts on cylinders 1, 2, 7, and 8 exhaust and 1, 3, 4, and 5 intake engine while the engine is positioned in this way. Following 360 degrees Crankshaft rotation, tighten valve Rocker Arm bolts for cylinders 3, 4, 5, 6 exhaust to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) and for cylinders 2, 6, 7, 8 intake to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). The last procedure is to mount the valve Rocker Arm cover.
