2004 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the pushrod and valve rocker arm on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?
A: Begin valve Rocker Arm shift and push rod replacement through a procedure that starts by taking out the valve Rocker Arm cover to arrange valve rocker arms and pushrods and pivot support on a rack before possible reinstallation. First remove the valve Rocker Arm bolts then the valve rocker arms alongside the valve Rocker Arm pivot support before pulling out the pushrods. The valve rocker arms and pushrods require cleaning and inspection before receiving clean engine oil lubrication treatment which should also be applied to the valve Rocker Arm bolt flanges. Install the valve Rocker Arm pivot support first and verify that the pushrods fit at the valve lifter sockets properly before mounting the pushrods through the ready holes without fastening the Rocker Arm bolts yet. Reposition the Crankshaft until the number one piston reaches top dead center (TDC) of compression while keeping the Crankshaft sprocket key at the 1:30 position. Afterward, install the rocker arms followed by the bolts. When the engine reaches this specific position, tighten the valve Rocker Arm bolts that control cylinders 1, 2, 7 and 8 exhaust to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) and the bolts for cylinders 1, 3, 4, 5 intake to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). The procedure requires first rotating the Crankshaft 360 degrees followed by tightening cylinder 3, 4, 5, and 6 exhaust Rocker Arm bolts to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) then proceeding to tighten cylinder 2, 6, 7, and 8 intake Rocker Arm bolts to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Install the valve Rocker Arm cover as the last step.
