2004 Chevrolet SSR Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the valve rocker arm and push rods on 2004 Chevrolet SSR?
A: First remove the valve Rocker Arm cover then place valve rocker arms pushrods pivot support into a rack to maintain their proper setup. Start by removing valve Rocker Arm bolts after which you should proceed to take off the valve rocker arms and the valve Rocker Arm pivot support and finish by removing the pushrods. Thoroughly inspect both valve rocker arms and pushrods before the cleaning process. During reinstallation clean engine oil should be used to lubricate valve rocker arms and pushrods while the bolts also receive lubrication on their flange. Fitting the valve Rocker Arm pivot support should include proper alignment of the pushrods in the valve lifter sockets and then pushrod seating in the rocker arms before moving forward with the Rocker Arm bolt installation. After bolting the rocker arms and tightening the bolt installers should turn the Crankshaft to reach the number one piston at top dead center (TDC) on compression while the Crankshaft sprocket key positions at 1:30. The technician must torque the intake Rocker Arm bolts for cylinders 1, 3, 4, 5 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) and exhaust Rocker Arm bolts for cylinders 1, 2, 7, 8 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) at this position. Tighten all bolts for exhaust rocker arms on cylinders 3, 4, 5, 6 to 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.) while bolts for intake rocker arms on cylinders 2, 6, 7 and 8 require the same torque of 30 nm (22 ft. Lbs.). Place the valve Rocker Arm cover into position at the end of the installation.
