2005 Chevrolet Tahoe Parking Brake Cable Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the left rear parking brake cable on those without RPO NYS on 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe?
A: A replacement of the left rear park brake cable starts by releasing the park brake and lifting the vehicle when working on vehicles that do not have RPO NYS installed. The first design park brake cable on 1500 series vehicles requires pressure relief from the front cable near the equalizer followed by easing out the left rear cable from both its equalizer bar and frame bracket and guides. To remove casing from a 1500 series with second design cable or the 2500 series start by pulling down on the front cable then strip it from the equalizer bar prior to unclipping the bracket and removing the shock bracket bolt and disengaging the cable from the plate at the lever. After proper routing of the new cable through correct body mount and guide positions, secure it on the backing plate while tabs lock for series 15 and 25 installations. Next, connect to the lever and finish with shock absorber bracket attachment using a bolt at 25 N.m (18 lb ft) torque setting. To complete the installation of the cable you must put it into the mounting bracket to allow the locking tabs to enter the bracket position. Similarly for the 1500 series with its second design or 2500 series you should connect the park brake cable to the equalizer bar. Follow this installation process: Use the frame bracket and guides to pass the first design park brake cable of the 1500 series before linking it to the equalizer bar on the left rear side. Lower the vehicle and remove safety stands before performing necessary adjustments on the park brake cable.
