2005 GMC Canyon A/C Expansion Valve Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Address Issues with the A/C Expansion Valve on 2005 GMC Canyon?
A: Beginning any thermal expansion valve (TXV) replacement process requires recovering all the refrigerant first. The first step is to remove the nut from the TXV mounting stud which is followed by detachment of the evaporator tube and then the compressor suction hose from the TXV. First remove both old seal washers from the unit before you extract the TXV by taking out its bolts. Placement of new seal washers should follow before installing the TXV on evaporator core fittings. Secure the Thermal Expansion Valve by tightening bolts to 7 N.m (62 lb in). Install fresh sealing washers onto the evaporator tube fittings and the compressor suction hose before returning those tubes back to their TXV connection. You should put in the TXV nut and secure it by turning to 20 N.m (15 lb ft). The complete system setup is followed by evacuation and charging of the refrigerant system while conducting a leak test on fittings using the Halogen Leak Detector (J 39400-A).
