2005 GMC Canyon Crankshaft Position Sensor Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2005 GMC Canyon?
A: Start by elevating and supporting the vehicle before replacing the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor. First disconnect the CKP sensor's engine wiring harness electrical connector then unwind the CKP sensor bolt to extract the CKP sensor from the engine block. Discard both O-ring seals. New O-ring seals need installation on the CKP sensor before applying a light coating of clean engine oil. Before installing the bolt into the engine block position the CKP sensor first. After that apply sealer GM P/N 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) on the bolt threads. You should install the engine wiring harness electrical connector onto the CKP sensor while tightening the CKP sensor bolt to a torque setting of 10 N.m (89 lb in). Lower the vehicle while performing the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure.
