2005 GMC Safari Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to replace the front door Weather Strip on 2005 GMC Safari?
A: The first step for front door weather strip replacement involves removal of the interior garnish moldings. The Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover (J 38778) helps users separately the weather strip from door pinchweld flanges by starting at the upper right corner before proceeding down to fully detach the weather strip. The new weather strip needs to be installed with an equal length spacing by attaching it partially to the pinchweld flange at six strategic points. Firmly push the weather strip into the opening and subsequently place it upon the pinchweld flange to a 154 mm (6 in) mark positioned evenly from both corner points. A rubber mallet needs to hit the weather strip directly onto the flange to prevent unwanted carrier expansion that may decrease retention. Use the rubber mallet to press-fit the weather strip into the corners and all pinchweld flange locations of the hinge and windshield pillars. Make sure that the weather strip both fits properly into the corner aspect and matches the pinchweld flange radius and completely rests on the flange while creating a smooth vinyl trim around the door opening with no distortion or carrier spreading. Follow-up by checking that the weather strip appears untwisted and unwarped after setup and apply GM weather strip silicone lube for lubrication. The last step will be to put back all interior garnish moldings.
