- Q: How to replace the positive battery cable on 2006 Buick LaCrosse?A: Battery replacement begins with disconnecting the battery negative cable then the battery positive cable at the battery. Open the electrical center by flaring the tabs before unscrewing the nuts which lock down the electrical cable to the center. Start by moving the protective boot off the generator output bat terminal and remove both the generator output bat terminal nut and disconnect the battery positive lead from the generator. After removing the Starter terminal nut, disconnect the positive Battery Cable from the Starter unit. Then lower the vehicle while taking out the battery positive cable from the engine compartment. The first step of installation requires placing the battery positive cable at the engine before lifting the vehicle. Apply the Starter terminal nut while placing the battery positive cable to the Starter component and tighten it to 13 n.m (115 lb in). Install the generator bat terminal nut while tightening it to 13 n.m (115 lb in). The generator output bat terminal should have its protective boot reinstalled while the vehicle lowers down and the battery positive cable must be connected to the electrical center using a nut at 15 n.m (11 lb ft). To complete the process install the electrical center cover followed by cable connection between the battery positive terminal and battery with 17 n.m (13 lb ft) torque and reconnected battery negative terminal.
