2006 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Vacuum Brake Booster on a 3.8L V-6 on 2006 Buick Lucerne?
A: On a 3.8l v-6 engine you must detach the fuel injector sight shield to replace the vacuum Brake Booster system. After unplugging the electrical connector from the EGR Valve you should detach the engine harness clips and position them to the side. After disconnecting the brake fluid sensor you can remove the master cylinder mounting bolts and take out the master cylinder to set it aside. Pull off the left knee bolster and insulator panel before disconnection of the vacuum Brake Booster hose and valve. Lower the steering support with wire after removing its bolts then disconnect both stop lamp/abs/shift lock and tcc/cruise control switches. Detach the vacuum Brake Booster pushrod retainer clip along with the pushrod spacer before taking off the mounting nuts for the Steering Column and then the vacuum Brake Booster. When the gasket shows damage during the process you need to install a fresh gasket. Start with the new vacuum Brake Booster gasket and install it before placing the booster in position. Fix the pushrod onto the brake pedal and install both the spacer and retaining clip together. Using a torque wrench, accept the mounting nuts for the Steering Column while tightening them to 23 nm (17 ft. Lbs.). Reconnect both controls after placing the Steering Column correctly and fastening it to the vehicle. Put back the knee bolster panel and left barrier panel then attach the vacuum Brake Booster watch valve and hose. Connect the electrical Brake Fluid Level Sensor and position engine wiring elements with EGR Valve plugs at the specified engine harness points. Reapply the fuel injector sight shield as a last step.
