• Q: How to replace the vacuum brake booster on a 3.8L engine on 2007 Buick Lucerne?

  A: To install a new vacuum Brake Booster for the 3.8l engine start by taking off the fuel injector sight shield. After that disconnect the electrical connector at the EGR Valve followed by removing the engine harness clips from their mounting posts and placing them aside. First disconnect the Brake Fluid Level Sensor and next remove the master cylinder by unthreading its mounting bolts while holding it with heavy mechanics wire. Detach the Brake Booster check valve with vacuum hose then remove the left knee bolster and Steering Column support bolts to lower the Steering Column while supporting it with heavy mechanics wire. Start removal by unplugging the brake pedal position sensor and by removing the vacuum Brake Booster pushrod retainer clip and spacer. Install the Steering Column mounting nuts before taking out the vacuum Brake Booster. When the vacuum Brake Booster gets broken you need to put in a fresh gasket for replacement. First put the new vacuum Brake Booster gasket in place then position the vacuum Brake Booster itself. Wind the pushrod towards the brake pedal while fitting in the spacer and securing it with the retaining clip. Fasten the mounting nuts to 30 n.m (22 lb ft) while also joining the brake pedal position sensor electrical connector and placing back the master cylinder. Line up and fasten the Steering Column before adding the knee bolster panel. Put back the nail the hose to the vacuum Brake Booster and the Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connection while also connecting the engine wiring system. Secure the EGR Valve electrical connector then attach the engine harness clamps while putting back the fuel injector sight shield.
