2008 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Power Vacuum Brake Booster on a 3.8L engine on 2008 Buick Lucerne?
A: Begin replacing the power vacuum Brake Booster by taking off the fuel injector shield then unplugging the EGR Valve electrical connector. Next step can be made by disconnecting the engine harness clips and setting them aside. You should start by disconnecting the Brake Fluid Level Sensor and then removing the nuts securing the master cylinder. After that, lift out the master cylinder and hang it using mechanics wire. Release the Brake Booster valve hose before taking off the left knee bolster and Steering Column support mounting bolts to drop the Steering Column into place and secure it with strong mechanics wire. Unplug the brake pedal position sensor then take out the vacuum Brake Booster pushrod retainer clip and spacer while disconnecting the vacuum Brake Booster nuts below the Steering Column to remove it. When the vacuum Brake Booster gasket shows damage you should install a brand new one. Begin installation with the new vacuum Brake Booster gasket and continue with the vacuum Brake Booster itself before adding the pushrod to the brake pedal, spacer inclusion, and pushrod retainer clip. Secure mounting nuts at 30 n.m (22 lb ft) while connecting the brake pedal position sensor electrically and placing the master cylinder in the space. After setting the Steering Column in its position work from the knee bolster panel down by installing the vacuum Brake Booster check valve, hose, and Brake Fluid Level Sensor electrical connection. Position the engine wiring harness and join the electrical connector to the EGR Valve before reinstating the engine harness clips. Put the fuel injector sight shield in place and set the brake pedal position sensor.
