2006 Buick Lucerne Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2006 Buick Lucerne?
A: As the final step install the ckp sensor shield and reattach the engine harness to the oil pressure sensor and the Ignition Control Module wiring harness to the ckp sensor before installing the crankshaft balancer and lowering the vehicle to finish by adding the Power Steering Pump and bolts along with the Water Pump pulley and drive belt tensioner while tightening the Water Pump pulley bolts. The Water Pump pulley bolts need to be loosened first followed by removing the drive belt tensioner and Water Pump pulley at a lowered vehicle position. Lift the vehicle while repositioning the Power Steering Pump before you can remove the crankshaft balancer without damaging the crankshaft. A flat-bladed tool should gently extract the crankshaft front oil seal while maintaining the intact condition of both bore and contact surfaces. The technician disconnects wiring harnesses of the Ignition Control Module from crankshaft position (CKP) and camshaft position (CMP) sensors while also disconnecting engine harness wires from the oil pressure sensor. Locate and remove the ckp sensor shield before repositioning the radiator outlet hose clamp with hose clamp pliers (J38185). Start by positioning the engine support fixture (J40518-B) then lower the vehicle and detach the radiator outlet hose. The vehicle must be raised again to extract the Oil Filter and engine mount bracket along with disconnecting the engine harness from the oil level sensor. The Oil Pan can be slightly tilted down by loosening all bolts and removing the oil level sensor. First loosen the Oil Pan bolts by removing the Oil Pan-to-engine front cover bolts before removing the ckp sensor studs. After this, remove the sensor and engine front cover bolts/stud followed by the engine front cover itself. To replace the front engine cover gasket you must remove all engine front cover gasket and then proceed to remove the Oil Filter adapter bolts and the Oil Filter adapter and gasket along with the oil pressure relief valve and spring and Water Pump bolts and Water Pump and gasket and oil pump cover screws and oil pump cover and oil pump gear set. Update the Timing Chain, sprockets, and Oil Pan Gasket before cleaning and inspecting both the water and oil pumps. The installation sequence involves placing the cmp sensor and its bolt when replacing the engine front cover while lubricating the oil pump gear set with petroleum jelly then installing the oil pump gear set with petroleum jelly packing between the gears before securing the oil pump cover and screws. Position the Water Pump gasket on top of the Water Pump before installing the Water Pump bolts and tightening them according to measurements from an angle meter (J45059). After installing the Oil Filter adapter gasket and adapter, secure the adapter bolts. Then place the pressure relief valve spring and valve. Use a new engine front cover gasket before applying sealer gm p/n 12346004 (Canadian P/N 10953480) to the engine front cover bolts/stud threads. Then install the engine front cover bolts/stud while tightening them with the angle meter (J45059). Raise the Oil Pan first while installing the bolts and proceed with tightening the Oil Pan-to-engine front cover bolts. First connect the engine harness to the installed oil level sensor before installing the Oil Filter and proceeding with its tightness adjustment. Reset the engine mount bracket followed by lowering the vehicle while you remove the engine support fixture. Raising the vehicle allows workers to place the radiator outlet hose while employing hose clamp pliers (J38185) for hose clamp positioning. Set the front cover bolt tension on the new seal with tool j35354-a to ensure proper seating of the crankshaft front oil seal. To complete the repairs install the ckp sensor shield before reconnecting the engine harness to the oil pressure sensor while connecting the Ignition Control Module wiring harness to the ckp sensor. Then install the crankshaft balancer before lowering the vehicle to position and bolt the Power Steering Pump along with installing the Water Pump pulley and drive belt tensioner. The cooling system and crankcase should receive engine oil before checking for leaks during the ckp system variation learn procedure.
