Q: How to replace the engine front timing cover on 2007 Buick Lucerne?
A: The first step in order to replace the engine front cover, is the draining of the engine oil and the cooling system. Lower the vehicle and unbolt the Water Pump Pulley before taking out the drive belt tensioner and the Water Pump Pulley. Move the Power Steering Pump after unbolted it, then lift and support the vehicle. Disengage the crankshaft balancer, making sure that you do not damage the crankshaft, and pry out the crankshaft front oil seal using a flat-bladed tool. Remove the Ignition Control Module's wiring harness from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor and camshaft position (CMP) sensor as well as the engine harness from the oil pressure sensor. Remove the ckp sensor shield and deposition the radiator outlet hose clamp as shown in the hose clamp pliers (J 38185) before removing its outlet hose. Drop the car, and place the engine support fixture (J 42067-B), and then lift back up to take out Oil Filter and engine mount bracket. Remove the engine harness from the oil level sensor, as well as, possibly lowering Oil Pan for clearance. Remove the oil level sensor, oil pan-to-engine front cover bolts, and loosen up the rest of the Oil Pan bolts without their removal. Remove the ckp sensor studs and sensor; engine front cover bolts/stud and engine front cover, along with its gasket. On replacing the engine front cover, unfasten the Oil Filter adapter bolts, adapter and gasket, the oil pressure relief valve and spring, the bolt which fastens the Water Pump the Water Pump and gasket, the screws that fasten the Oil Pump cover, Oil Pump cover, and the Oil Pump gear set. Look at the movement of the Timing Chain, wear of the sprockets, and Oil Pan Gasket, replacing it as needed. Check the Water Pump, Oil Pump, and engine front cover mating surfaces. Clean them as well. For installation when replacing the engine front cover, install cmp sensor and mount its bolt and perform cmp sensor and Oil Pump by lubricating its gear set with petroleum jelly and Oil Pump gears to be packed. Mount Oil Pump cover and screws, tighten them, align Water Pump Gasket and Water Pump, and mount Water Pump bolts, tightening with the angle meter (J 45059). Install the pressure relief valve spring and valve, position Oil Filter adapter gasket and adapter, install the adapter bolts, tightening it with angle meter -(J 45059). Change the new engine front cover gasket, apply sealer to the engine front cover bolts/stud threads, and torque the engine front cover and bolts/stud using angle meter (J 45059). Mount the ckp sensor, studs, tighten the Oil Pan bolts snugly and mount the Oil Pan to engine front cover bolts and tighten. Install the oil level sensor and attach the engine harness to it installing the Oil Filter and tighten. Replace the engine mount bracket, lower the vehicle, and remove the engine support fixture (J 42067-B). Again lift the vehicle to put the radiator outlet hose and align the hose clamp using the hose clamp pliers (J 38185). Lastly, install the new engine front cover seal with the seal installer (J 35354-A), tighten the bolt until the crankshaft front oil seal is seated and the rest of the assembly steps , including the fills of the cooling system and crankcase with oil and inspection for leaks , ckp system variation learn procedure.
