2006 Buick Rainier Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in a system on 2006 Buick Rainier?
A: Collecting the refrigerant is the first step before replacing the accumulator. The a/c pressure switch gets its electrical connector detached before the a/c low pressure switch is removed. Detach the compressor suction hose assembly from the accumulator by removing the nut which retains the accumulator to the Evaporator first. Before removing the accumulator from the vehicle dispose of the o-ring seals and unscrew the clamp nut. It is essential to apply refrigerant oil to the new accumulator during installation unless replacing the complete accumulator. Put the accumulator inside the clamp after which tighten the clamp nut to a torque of 10 n.m (88 lb in). Start by installing the a/c low pressure switch and subsequently applying 5 n.m (44 lb in) of torque to it. Then attach new o-ring seals. The accumulator needs to be attached onto the Evaporator before tightening the retaining nut to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Install the suction hose of the compressor to the accumulator while fastening the nut to 48 n.m (35 lb ft). The technician should finish the procedure by joining the electrical connector to the a/c low pressure switch while evacuating and recharging the a/c system with a halogen leak detector (J 39400-A).
