2005 Buick Rainier A/C Accumulator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to replace the A/C Accumulator in an A/C system on 2005 Buick Rainier?
A: The first step to replace the accumulator requires recovering all refrigerant from the system. Begin the accumulator replacement task by unplugging the electrical connector from the a/c pressure switch then removing the a/c low pressure switch. First disconnect the compressor suction hose assembly from the accumulator before removing the nut which retains the accumulator to the Evaporator. Before extraction of the accumulator remove the accumulator clamp nut and discard the o-ring seals from the vehicle. Add refrigerant oil to the new accumulator during its installation if it serves as an exchange. The accumulator should be installed into the accumulator clamp before tightening the clamp nut to 10 n.m (88 lb in). The technician should install the a/c low pressure switch followed by tightening it to 5 n.m (44 lb in) and then add the new o-ring seals. Apply the retaining nut to connect the accumulator to the Evaporator before tightening it to 28 n.m (21 lb ft). Anchor the compressor suction hose to the accumulator before tightening its suction hose nut to 48 n.m (35 lb ft). Close by plugging the electrical connector to the a/c low pressure switch after you evacuate and refill the a/c system through the halogen leak detector (J 39400-A) procedure.
