- Q: How to Service and Repair Coil Springs on 2006 Buick Rendezvous?A: Start service and repair of the coil spring by removing the strut from your vehicle. Move the strut into the strut spring compressor tool (J 45400) for installation. When installing the coil spring it must be compressed after the strut has moved freely. Turn the spring compressor forcing screw to accomplish coil spring compression. Use the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) together with a 45 torx® socket to unlock the upper strut mount nut. The compressor forcing screw needs loosening on strut spring compressor (J 45400) to take out the upper strut mount and coil spring together. Place the coil spring together with the upper strut mount inside the strut spring compressor (J 45400). Turn the forcing screw to re-compress the coil spring. Plug the strut into position with its mounted coil spring and upper strut mount before attaching the strut retaining nut slightly loose. Secure the strut shaft using a 45 torx® socket and thread the strut rod nut socket (J 42991) to apply 85 nm (63 ft. Lbs.) torque on the upper strut mount nut. Use the strut spring compressor (J 45400) to extract the strut and replace it inside the vehicle.
