• Q: How to replace the ignition lock cylinder on 2006 Buick Rendezvous?

  A: To replace the ignition switch lock cylinder, first remove battery negative cable and disable sir system. Pull out the Steering Wheel and the retaining screw from the lower steering column trim covers. Both the upper and lower steering column trim covers should be removed. Tilt down the trim cover and slide it rearward and disengage the locking tabs. Then, peel off the retaining screws on the upper Steering Column Cover and lift it up to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole. Insert snap-on a173a bent-tip awl or equivalent into the access hole of the ignition switch lock cylinder and turn the ignition switch lock cylinder to start. With the bent tip, push down on the ignition switch lock cylinder retainer, then let the ignition switch lock cylinder to run position and pull it to the lock cylinder case. During installation, insert the ignition switch lock cylinder through the trim cover of the upper steering column with the lock cylinder retaining tab aligned with the position tab, and push the lock cylinder fully into the lock housing, aligning with the slots in the lock housing. Put in the retaining screws to the top steering trim upper side, and tighten them up to 3.5 nm (31 inch lbs.) of torque. Insert the slots in the lower trim cover into the locking tabs in the upper trim cover, raise upwards the lower trim cover and slide it until the locking tabs secure in place. Replace the lower trim cover screws to the steering column installing and visiting 1.5 nm (13 inch lbs), the steering column and enable the sir system when reconnecting the battery negative cable.
