2006 Cadillac CTS Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace the Clutch Master Cylinder on 2006 Cadillac CTS?
A: Start your Clutch Master Cylinder (CTS) replacement by taking out the driver side instrument panel insulator while you remove the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector. Begin by disconnecting the Clutch Master Cylinder push rod from the clutch pedal pin then remove the clutch fluid reservoir retaining bolt before taking out the fender reinforcement attached reservoir. The coolant draining process and disconnecting the surge tank lines should not be performed for this procedure. The coolant surge tank requires relocation by removing its mounting bolts first to create sufficient clearance between the installation steps of a new master cylinder. When disconnecting the clutch hydraulic hose keep the exposed hose fitting from leakages or contamination by using a rubber cap. First remove the Clutch Master Cylinder along with a 1/8 turn clockwise rotation before extracting it from its cowl position. Subsequently remove the clutch pedal position switch attached to the Clutch Master Cylinder. For installation place the clutch pedal position switch onto the new Clutch Master Cylinder while holding the clutch fluid reservoir connection at the 2 o'clock position before inserting the master cylinder into the cowl. Synchronize the housing keys of the Clutch Master Cylinder to the clutch pedal bracket tabs while turning it counterclockwise a 1/8 turn. Continue the rotation until the master cylinder is fully seated with the reservoir hose directing to the 12 o'clock vertical position. Insert the clutch hydraulic hose while reinstalling the coolant surge tank then fix the clutch fluid reservoir against the fender reinforcement by torqueing the reservoir bolt to 36 nm (27 ft. Lbs.). After positioning the Clutch Master Cylinder push rod to the clutch pedal it should be secured while reattaching the clutch pedal position switch electrical connector and reinstalling the driver side instrument panel insulator. Complete clutch hydraulic system bleeding to finish the procedure.
